A rivet nut (Rivnut®) tool works by inserting a threaded rivet nut (rivnut) onto the tool, then sticking the tool (with the rivet nut on the tool) into a pre-drilled hole and initating the tool install sequence. As the tool pulls on the internal threads of the rivet nut, the ivet nut backside deforms (upsets, bulges, etc.) and clamps tightly against the parent material. The tool is removed out of the install rivet nut, and the installed rivet nut now offers a strong threaded anchor for secondary attachments via a bolt or screw.
